Coaching With Dorrie
Dorrie Presson is a certified coach through the Coach Training Alliance.
FOUR-STEP COACHING PROCESS
As your coach, I’ll guide you through the following steps to achieve your career goals:
- Explore–In this first step, you will discover your interests, strengths, values and personality as they relate to work that is a perfect “fit” for you!
- Investigate–Based on what you learned from the Explore stage, you’ll take steps to identify specific career paths.
- Create–Make your action plan with timelines and clear goals. Take small, consistent steps to follow the plan and keep moving forward to find the work you love.
- Achieve–Congratulate yourself and celebrate your success!
The process will be unique to each individual, though I encourage emphasis on the first step, Explore, for anyone unsure of his/her career direction. I agree with Richard Bolles, author of the classic career guide “What Color is Your Parachute?” who asserts that “you will need only half the information you thought you would need about the job market and twice the amount of information you thought you would need about yourself.”

A few questions I’m often asked:
Do you only coach individuals in career transition?
While that’s the primary focus of my practice, I’ve also worked with clients dealing with other types of life transitions including returning to school, adjusting to a new community following a relocation, and preparing to send a child off to college.
Do you work with a certain type of client?
I’ve enjoyed coaching a variety of individuals, from college students making a career decision and recent graduates unsure of their career direction to mid-career professionals planning a career change.
Do I have to live near you in order to be coached?
The majority of professional coaching takes place by phone, so no place is too far away if you have access to a phone and a computer with email. Coaching via phone is convenient and time efficient, and I find that my clients and I are able to cover more ground in less time over the phone than in person. If you live in the Nashville, TN area and prefer to meet in person for your coaching, we can certainly discuss meeting at my office in Cool Springs.
How do I know if I should work with you as my Career Coach?
I offer a complimentary evaluation so that we can talk about your career goals as well as how we would work together. You’ll also have a chance to explore any questions you may have about coaching.
